Rauma is a town of
around 39,600 inhabitants (31 August 2017). It
is situated on the west coast of Finland, more or less 92 kilometres
north of Turku. Rauma is known in
Finland for its paper and maritime
industry, high quality lace and the old wooden architecture of its town centre, which
is a UNESCO world
heritage site. Places that I recommend when roaming Rauma would
firstly be the old city, this gives you an idea of the typical architecture, as well as the individuality of the wooden
houses painted with vibrant colours that was common in Finland several hundred years ago. In the old town there are
cafes, typical Finnish handcraft shops and much more! There are several
churches to explore, as well as ruins from when the town was burnt to the
ground during the medieval era.
